Reformed Church Youth Fellowship (RCYF) – 9th-12th
The RCYF meets on Sunday afternoons from 4:00-5:30. Various topics are discussed in both large and small groups led by youth group leaders. The youth also do service projects and fundraisers to support their every-other-year mission trip. RCYF meets regularly from September to May.
RCYF Fundraisers
The RCYF does fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for their mission trips. Some of our fundraisers include meat sales (through Ottawa Beach Inn), Pizza Sales, Car Wash coupon sales, and Rent-a-kid projects (help with various service projects as needed or requested).
RCYF Mission Trip
Every other year the RCYF travels on a mission trip to another part of the country. These service projects have been located in Tennessee, Alaska, and New York in the recent years.
Below are Pictures from the Most Recent Mission Trip to Alaska.
In June of 2009, thirty members of North Holland RCYF (22 students and 8 leaders) traveled to Sutton, Alaska, on a mission trip organized by Eaglecrest Ministries.
Although a bit of free time meant site-seeing, shopping, and a dinner cruise with views of Alaskan wildlife (humpback whales, sea lions, and bald eagles), we were dedicated to serving the Sutton community. Projects included building a handicap access ramp at a church, rebuilding a deck for a shut-in, digging an outhouse pit in frozen ground (in June!), painting and doing maintenance work at a historical park, rebuilding a living room destroyed by heavy snow, and clearing land, installing plumbing, and laying floors at a bush pilot-training facility.
The year’s RCYF mission statement was, “It is not about the Religion – It’s about the Relationship.” That is why building friendships through service to the Sutton community was our focus. It is our prayer and our belief that the shut-in military veteran, the handyman with recent physical limitations, and many others saw God’s love in the labor we offered them but more importantly in the friendships we developed with them. We’ll forever remember the time we spent building our faith relationship with our Lord as well as relationships with each other. Many of us (leaders included) shared personal testimonies at our nightly campfire when, reflecting on where we saw God that day, we learned that we can lean on our faith, our God, and each other through any and all circumstances.
